The Challenge:
The YOUI Insurance Centre faced a significant challenge in managing its energy demands. With an estimated annual energy consumption of 1,694 MWh, the rising electricity costs and a substantial carbon footprint posed a clear problem. The task at hand was to implement a solar solution capable of meeting these high energy demands while delivering a tangible environmental impact. The system needed to integrate seamlessly into YOUI’s facilities without disrupting daily operations.
The Solution
S-Rack was enlisted by DS Energy to assist in delivering part of the comprehensive solar system, tailored to YOUI’s unique requirements. S-Rack tackled the preliminary site works, which included underground asset locating, feature and topographic surveying, and geotechnical investigation. Using the results obtained from this work, S-Rack designed and engineered the foundations, structural components and clamping system in line with the site’s specific requirements. The carport maximised the use of available carpark spaces to optimise energy production and efficiency.
Key features of the project included:
- S-Rack Carpark Installation: 840 Astronergy CHSM72N(DG)/F-BH-575W panels were mounted on the carpark, providing the dual benefit of vehicle shading and energy generation.
- DS Energy Rooftop Installation: 77 Astronergy CHSM60N(DG)F-HC-475W panels were installed on the building’s rooftop, making the most of available space for additional energy output.
The system’s combined capacity of 519.58 kW is projected to generate 829.0 MWh of clean energy annually, significantly reducing YOUI’s reliance on grid power.
The Result
The solar installation at YOUI Insurance Centre is expected to deliver transformative benefits, both environmentally and financially:
- Carbon Emissions Reduction: A projected annual reduction of 476.4 tonnes of CO₂, equivalent to planting approximately 7,000 trees every year.
- Annual Cost Savings: The system is estimated to save $165,286 annually on energy costs, providing long-term financial relief.
- Sustainability Leadership: This project reinforces YOUI’s position as an innovative and environmentally conscious organisation, aligning its operations with the values and expectations of its stakeholders.

S-Rack’s primary focus was on designing a custom solution that catered to YOUI’s site conditions, this meant factoring in the location of existing underground assets, such as a stormwater drainage system, and ensuring minimal disruption to the busy staff parking area.
