S-Rack, solar mounting specialists recently partnered with Energy Aware, a sustainable energy solutions provider to transform the existing DHL Carpark in Matraville to feature a. This project is set to power “QUOTE”
The Challenge
Transforming an existing, operational multi-storey carpark into a solar-powered one is no small task. The project involved installing solar panels on the top level of the carpark, providing 42 carparking spaces with integrated solar carports. Factoring in that the carpark was both functional and elevated meant combating distribution challenges with heavy machinery, like the planned use of a crane. S-Rack and Energy Aware navigated these complexities with ease, cleverly pre-planning the carport build, allowing S-Rack to start and finish the project in 2 weeks once on the jobsite.
Key Challenges and Solutions
- Structural Integrity: Liaising with the original engineer of the building was crucial to ensure the carport design did not undermine the carpark’s structural integrity.
- Council Approvals: S-Rack assisted Energy Aware in obtaining the necessary council approvals, streamlining the regulatory process with meticulous drawings.
- Traffic Management: With the carpark remaining operational during installation, effective traffic management was essential. S-Rack ensured a seamless operation to minimise disruptions to the general public during this 2 week period of operation.
Impact
The 42 carport installations are set to make a substantial impact on DHL’s energy consumption and sustainability goals, these carports are now set to generate 200,000kWh of renewable energy in 2025.
